Why Fanny Cradock?

Thinking about the recurring question in my crits and tutorials: "what is your relation to Fanny Cradock?" I would say that my work is not necessarily about me or my opinion of her, but her public legacy an perception that has been distorted/ warped over time by the fragments she has left behind, their interpretation by the media, and the decay of real memories regarding her career. The shadows she left behind are colourful, but they are informed by specific moments and images that are inflated by media tributes and selective memory that makes the remembrance of her dishonest, just as her cooking and persona often was in reality. This artificiality of person and memory is what fascinates me about her.
